Assesment methods :
During the semester students develop a group work - community plan for a real village. Group work will be assesed by 20 points. Individual work will be an essay on a given topic. It will be assessed by 20 points. Final written exam will be worth 60 points. To obtain a "A" rating, student must obtain at least 93 points for the evaluation, at least 86 points for rating "B", at least 79 points for rating "C", at least 72 points for "D" and 64 points for "E". Another condition for passing the subject will be participation in lectures and active participation in seminars.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The graduate will understand basic concepts, principles, and outcomes of the creation and implementation of social policy and will know its instruments. He/she will be able to independently assess approaches to solving social problems. The student will be able to analyze the social resources of local and regional development through methods and techniques of sociological research. He/she can identify the conditions for the social development of rural communities and the problems associated with social groups and communities living in different types of rural municipalities.

2. Approaches to solving social problems, an introduction to social policy
3. Instruments of social policy, social policy and the new socio-economic conditions. Social Reform
4. European social policy, the European social agenda, social rights in the EU
5. Social policy in Slovakia
6. Social economy, social enterpraneurship, third sector
7. Rural population, rural society, rural community. Specifications, structure and way of life of rural society
8. Social Sources of Local and Regional Development
9. Human, social and cultural capital in rural areas, social participation
10.Sustainable social development, community development, community planning
