Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Objectives - to provide knowledge of exogenous and endogenous factors that modify the physiological condition of the body focusing on stress and adaptation mechanisms of animals and humans. There are contaminants that have a negative impact on the physiological functions of the organism in the environment. On the other hand bioactive substances may be important in the prevention of physiological alterations including cancers induced by exogenous and endogenous factors. Cellular stress induced by toxins can cause cell cycle defects, which are responsible for unchecked division, proliferation, and differentiation of cells and
inhibition of cell physiological process – apoptosis.

Learning outcomes – graduate of the study understands of the stress and adaptation mechanisms, and general sign of processes in organism in relation to the environment.
Course contents:
Subject provides theoretical and practical knowledge of exogenous environmental factors - classification, impact on physiological processes, stress, stress reactions, general adaptation syndrome, general signs of pathological processes, adapting to changes in diet - fasting, overeating, the impact of electromagnetic fields, acoustic waves, the influence of gravity , the effect of low and high temperatures, the influence of drugs, the impact of xenobiotics and chronic consequences from exposure to xenobiotics - carcinogenesis, mutagenesis and teratogenesis, impact of toxins, impact of natural biologically active substances and prevention.
