Objectives and learning outcomes of the course unit:
After the completion of the subject the student understands the basic steps in the Environmental Impact Assessment process. The student is able to identify the main differences between individual steps of the EIA and SEA.
Course contents:
General principles of the assessment process, the theoretical and methodological bases. Goals and terminology. History and development of the assessment of environmental impact. EIA as a tool of international environmental policy for implementation of the sustainable development. Legislation in the EIA process. The basic scheme of the EIA process (sequence of individual steps). Participants in the assessment process, their role, rights and responsibilities. The methodology for assessing the impact of activities on the environment. Strategic environmental assessment (SEA) of policies, plans and programs on the environment. Information system for the assessment environmental impact in Slovakia. The role of EIA in the territorial and regional planning.
