Objectives and learning outcomes of the course unit:
After completion of the subject the student understands of the effects of toxic substances environmental compartments, movement and accumulation of toxic substances in the food chain. The student is able to estimate the harmful toxic substances active at very low levels for a long time for extensive populations and give an overview of toxicity tests at different levels of hierarchical structure of nature.
Course contents:
Definition, classification and characteristics of individual sections ecotoxicology. Characteristics of xenobiotics in the environment and their biotransformation, toxicity and its effect, synergism, detoxification. Mutagens, carcinogens, teratogens. General knowledge about the effects of toxic substances in relation to the organism and some variable environmental factors. Poisoning. Inputs of toxic substances into the organism. Absorption, distribution, transfer of substances through the membrane. Ecotoxicity tests - in vitro, in vivo, in situ and ex situ.
