Assesment methods :
During the semester there will be 2 written tests in 20 points and a final written exam in 60 points. To obtain A mark will be needed to obtain at least 93 points, for the evaluation of B mark at least 86 points, C mark at least 79 points, for the evaluation of D mark at least 72 points and for the evaluation of E mark at least 64 points.
Objectives and learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will understand the general principles of nutrition, principles of metabolic regulation, transport of substances through membranes and interrelationships in the metabolism of nutrients, i.e. carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. After the course a student knows the basics methods in biochemistry, which can be applied in laboratory practice and research activities.
Course contents:
Basic principles of nutrition. Principles of metabolic regulation, transport of substances through membranes. Proteins, carbohydrates and lipids - their biochemical characteristics, classification of nutrition and metabolism. Interrelationships in the metabolism of the nutrients. Essential nutrients - vitamins, minerals and trace elements and their relationship to metabolism.Free radicals and antioxidants and their mechanism of action.
