Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students manage the conception of environmental stress effect within biological systems and causality of relationships between plants and their environment. They know mechanisms of stress effect on plants, plant resistance against stresses, their acclimation and adaptation to environment. They understand structural and functional changes of photosynthetic apparatus against stresses and possibility of their elimination.
Course contents:
Environment as a source of stresses in plants. Nature of climate change and their main factors. Stress conception in plants - general adaptation syndrom in plants. Plant cell as a sensor of environmental changes, role of cell membranes in signal perception. Ways of signal transduction in cells and whole plants as a response to external factors. Water stress. Mineral nutrition stress. Temperature stress. Radiation stress. Salinity stress. UV stress. Biotic stress. Use of knowledge on mechanisms of abiotic and biotic stresses in plants for improvement of plants / crops by means of physiological breeding and biotechnologies.
