Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – written exam (40 points each), presentation of seminar work (20 points) and end-of-term examination (40 points).
Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points. A student may earn units of credits in grading scale from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Graduate acquires knowledge and extends knowledge about medcinal plants cultivated in cultural agroecological conditions and collected from nature. He is able to identify significant types of medicinal plants, herbal substances and pharmacopoeial vegetative drugs. The work of the semester will be based on knowledge about the morphological structure of medicinal plants, their content and useage.
Course contents:
The meaning and use of medicinal plants. Production of medicinal, aromatic and spice plants in Slovakia and abroad. Substances contained in medicinal plants and their variability. Technology of production of medicinal, aromatic and spice plants. Vegetative drug - methods of preparation and editing, storing, adjusting, and use in human and veterinary medicine. Field exercises and excursions are realized in cooperation of the VPP SPU, s.r.o. Kolíňany, Fytopharma, Inc. Malacky and Botanical Garden SUA in Nitra.
