Planned learning activities and teaching methods : Full-time study per week: lectures 2 lessons, laboratory excersizes 1 lesson, excursion 5 lessons, (per term: lectures 26 lessons, laboratory excersizes 13 lessons, excursion 5 lessons, individual work 60 hours).
Part-time study per term: lecturers 15 hours, laboratory excersizes 5 hours, individual work 84 lessons.

Assesment methods :
During the term there will be one written tests of evaluation 40 points and final written test of evaluation 60 points. For evaluation A it is neccesary to obtain 93 points, for evaluation B it is necessary to obtain min. 86 points, for evaluation C it is necessary to obtain min. 79 points, for evaluation D it is necessary to obtain min. 72 point and for evaluation E it is necessary to obtain min. 64 points.

 
Objectives and learning outcomes of the course unit:
After completion of subject the student is able to work in multidisciplinar area of human and animal health care in the case of environmental contamination by different man-made and natural radionuclides. Student is able and will acquire knowledge and terminology needed for effective communication with experts from the fields of physics, nuclear technology, medicine, and emergency management.
 
Course contents:
Radioactive nuclei of atoms and their decay. Natural and man-made sources of ionizing radiation. Stochastic and non-stochastic effects of ionizing radiation on biological systems. Basic rules of radiation protection, international codification, present state of legislation in EU and Slovak Republic. Efficiency of countermeasures applied after the Windscale and Chernobyl incidents. Possible scenarios involving environmental contamination by radioactive substances from different sources. Radiological emergency management with respect to optimal implementation of countermeasures in agriculture and food production. Food monitoring network setup in Slovak Republic and European Union .
