Assesment methods :
Course credit: individual solution of the project proposal for small wastewater treatment plant, calculation amount of the waster water, amount of pollution for the selected community

To obtain marking as A - excelent must be obtained at least 93 points, for marking as B - very good must be obtained at least 86 points, for marking as C – good must be obtained at least 79 points, for marking as D - satisfactory must be obtained at least 72 points, and for marking as E – sufficient must be obtained at least 64 points. Student obtains a course-credit for subject in the case of marking from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After completion of the subject the student is able to understand the theory of the individual ways of the waste waters contamination removal from the waste water treatment plants. Student is able to apply knowledge necessary for the design of small wastewater treatment plants in small villages, and he knows practically a solution of the nutrients removal from the waste water treatment plants. Student is able to apply knowledge from the alternative waste waters treatment at the individual design of small wastewater treatment plant in concrete village. The student is able to prepare the project for its approval by the environmental protection authorities.
Course contents:
Sources of water pollution in rural areas and agricultural production. Technical and legal possibilities of wastewater from local sources of pollution. Clean-up methods - biological, mechanical. Differences with the city's cleaning methods - technical, technological. Bases for design of small sewage treatment plants. Ways of reducing N, P, heavy metals and other harmful substances. Proposal for cleaning. Septic, infiltration strips, filter fields, constructed wetlands, biological ponds, irrigation wastewater from agriculture. Comparison of solutions. Specific proposal for cleaning small farm and village.
