Course unit title: Environmental Management Systems
Planned types, learning activities and teaching methods:

 Active participation in class
Students are expected to actively participate in class by asking and answering questions. Students will have a chance to complete a few small voluntary exercises throughout the course worth of 15 extra points (∑ 100 + 15).
 Partial exam
in the 8th week (will be announced 1 weeks ahead), from the topics up to 7 week-included, exam will have the form of test, filling in, describing, naming and so on. Maximum points are 15. To fulfill the criteria of inclusion student must achieve 10 points. There is a possibility to repair the exam once. If the student fain the exam second time, the points can be replaced by voluntary tasks (15 points needed)

 Semestralproject + presentation:
Student will prepare a 10-15 page semestral project consisting of:
1. Environmental performance description in students´ household from environmental point of view (water, energy, materials usage, waste treatment) = identifying environmental aspects and impacts(5 in each category) (5 points)
2. Environmental policy paper (1 page - up to 10 aims) (3 points)
3. 5 Long-term and 10 short-term aims which are there to achieve (5 points)
4. Environmental audit (working in pairs, during the presentation - auditor and audited - list of 10 questions prepared ahead in the project) (7 points)
5. Final report - benefits of the system based on financial savings calculations and environmental advantages for the household), 10 suggestions or realized changes in the households during the semester (10 points)
Presentationshould be 10-15 minutes. There will be cut short if you run over time. Presentation should include all the points from the semestral project.
Maximum points for the semestral project is 20 and 15 points for the presentation(∑ 100). Group evaluation of students seminar projects - 50% mine assessment and 50% groups assessment


For A classification it is necessary to obtain 93 points, for B classification it is necessary to obtain 86 points, for C classification it is necessary to obtain 79 points, for D classification it is necessary to obtain 72 points and for E classification it is necessary to obtain at least 64 points. Student receives credits for the subject if he gets evaluation from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:

 use the terminology of EMS
 will have the competence to perform environmental audit in the company
 create (all necessary documents as ...environmental policy---) for any type of the company
 assess the environmental performance of any type of company

Environmenalistics – basic ideas, environment – factors, characteristics, organization approach to environment
E – policy, strategy, rules and priorities of the state environmental policy, National environmental action plan, European environmental policy (voluntary task)
The documents of state environmental policy – environmental notes, the sources of the information
Risk management, ecological and health risk evaluation, management (voluntary task)
Integrated pollution prevention and control - movie watching
Life cycle assessment, the phases of LCA, the value of LCA evaluation - movie watching
Definitions and characteristics of cleaner production, the tool for cleaner production evaluations, ecodesign- movie watching
Environmental management – basics, advantages of environmental management - - movie watching
The system of environmental management, Deming´s model, The structure of ISO 1400X
The projecting of environment management system – planning, implementation and management, general requirements, control tasks, Environmental audit (part of the seminar project)
National systems of environmental labelling, environmental labels and proclamations, the institutions of E-evaluation and labelling (voluntary task)
