|Learning outcomes of the course unit:|
After completion of the subject the student will understand the problematics of database designing and will be able to apply appropriations of data processing means that support SQL language standard - mainly an MS Access application. In practice, the issue is focused on the relational data models, database designing and their optimization. Student become familiar with the rules, syntax and principles of work with queries designing and other objects like forms and reports. Part of the subject is an introduction to work with macros in MS Access.
|1.Basic terminology and principles of database processing. Data abstraction layers. Physical and logical data independence.
2.Data models, their characteristics and uses to describe database systems.
3.Properties, characteristics and principles of relational databases. Designing and modeling of databases in Microsoft Access.
4.Components of conceptual, logical and physical design of database.
5.Query languages SQL and QBE, basic features, commands and clauses. History of SQL.
6.The logical design of database systems and normalization.
7.The physical design of database systems.
