Assesment methods :
In the course of the semester 1 written test for 20 points will be realized. During the semester the presentation of the seminar work for 10 points will be done. Final written exam will be for 60 points. To obtain a mark A at least 93 points must be obtained for the evaluation of B at least 86 points, for C at least 79 points for mark D minimum 72 points and for E at least 64 points must be obtained.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student understands the physiological effect of biologically active substances (polyphenols, alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, tannins, natural dyes, oil, ...), understands the processes of absorption, metabolism, protective effects of bioactive substances. The student is able to apply acquired knowledge to learn other subjects in the field of nutrition and health.
Course contents:
The role of the bioactive substances and of other dietary components. Absorption. Biovailability. Metabolism of bioactive substances in the GIT – modification of bioactive substancesin in the upper GI tract. (effect of saliva, modification in the gastric lumen), metabolism and conjugation in the small intestine (effect of intestinal juice, jejunal and ileal transfer and metabolism), colonic metabolism. Action of bioactive substances in cell systems. The importance of bioactive substances in disease prevention and increase general health in the population.
