Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students learn about Earth global ecosystems and biomes, their production abilities, adaptability, ecostability and sustainability in conditions of climate change. They know causality of relations between plants and their environment and among plants within ecosystems, respectively and their effect on biomass production process. They know basic scenarios of global climate change development and its impact on plant ecosystems.
Course contents:
Characteristics of agrophytocenoses. Ecosystem as a system of ecological consequences. Interactions among plants – competition, complementarity, environmental changes, phenotypic plasticity, mycorhisis, symbiosis, allelopathy. Use of environmental heterogeneity by plants. Evolution, adaptation of species and productivity. Global climate changes, terestrial vegetation and agricultural production systems. Generative organ formation, yield potential and its realization. Vital seed (grain) formation, economical yield and its quality.
