Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – one written exam (20 points), semestral work (5 points),laboratory protocol (5 points), and end-of-term examination will comprise oral and written parts (70 points).
Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will get knowledge about the genomes and heredity of non-cell biological systems, bacteria, archea and eukarya (protista and microscopic fungi) and their relevance and mode of action in human nutrition as well as in health. The student will familiarise the skills in detecting the presence of viruses, bacteria, parasitic protista and fungi in host organism using electron microscopy, imunochemical techniques and methods of molecular biology (PCR and molecules hybridization).
Course contents:
Field of the genetics of microorganisms. Genetic of viruses, viroids, sattelites, prions, bacteria, archea and microskopic fungi. Cell reproduction and life cycles of microorganisms. Molecular methods of microorganisms detection in host cells. Probiotics, prebiotics and symbiotics in health of human. Biosynthesis of vitamins by microorganisms and synergic efect of microorganisms in human body.
