1 hour weekly / 13 hours per semester of study (on-site method)
3 hours weekly / 39 hours per semester of study (on-site method)

Prerequisites for registration: none
Assesment methods :
Two written tests for 15 points during the semester (totally 30 points), semester work (10 points). Final combined exam for 60 points (written - 30 points, oral - 30 points).
To obtain evaluation "A" at least 93 points must be obtained, for evaluation "B" at least 86 points must be obtained, for "C" at least 79 points, for "D" at least 72 points and for evaluation "E" at least 64 points must be obtained. Student receives credit for the subject in the case of evaluation with mark from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The students gain knowledge on breeds of sheep, theoretical and practical aspects of milk, meat and wool production, breeding and improvement programs, basic technological systems and management of sheep flock.
The student is able to apply acquired knowledge in managing of flock of dairy and non-dairy sheep, understand the importance of breeding work and can identify factors affecting the production and quality of primary sheep products.
Course contents:
Status and peculiarities of sheep breeding in Slovak conditions. Domestication of sheep. Characteristics of sheep breeds suitable for different production conditions. Theoretical and practical aspects of the production of sheep milk, meat and wool, their importance. Performance testing and evaluation of breeding sheep. Principles of managing farms and technological systems and rearing techniques. Practical training on agricultural farm focused on description of the exterior and wool of sheep. Evaluation of rams and yearlings, demonstration of delivery and care on lambs during rearing; show the basic techniques and technologies.
