Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – written exam (40 points each) and end-of-term examination – exam(60 points).
Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points. A student may earn units of credits in grading scale from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Graduate acquires knowledge about natural medicines that are used in human and veterinary medicine. He is able to identify natural herbs of plant origin. Student learns the basic principles of the use of medicinal plants in the prevention and supportive treatment of civilization diseases, alternatives to natural treatment (phytoterapy, homeopathy, gemotherapy, etc.).
Course contents:
The classification of drugs of natural origin. Biogenetic system of natural and pharmaceutical drugs. The structure and stability of natural medicines. Substances contained in medicinal and aromatic plants. The mechanism of the active substance content in medicinal and aromatic plants. The use of herbs and phyto-pharmaceutical substances in human and veterinary medicine. Practical exercises and field trips will be conducted in collaboration with the VPP SPU, s.r.o. Kolíňany.
