Assesment methods :
During the semester there will be semester project and its presentation in 40 points and a final written exam in 60 points. To obtain A mark will be needed to obtain at least 93 points, for the evaluation of B mark at least 86 points, C mark at least 79 points, for the evaluation of D mark at least 72 points and for the evaluation of E mark at least 64 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will gain knowledge in the field of genetically modified foods of plant and animal origin. After the course a student knows the basic molecular biology methods, which is able to apply in laboratory practice and in research.
Course contents:
Enzymes necessary for genetic engineering. Types of cloning vectors for prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Formation of recombinant DNA molecules, transformation into a host cell and analysis of transformants. Targeted gene expression, transgenic organisms, the principles of genetic engineering of plants, animals and microorganisms. Principles of biosafety in agri-food sector. Use of GMOs in food production. Healthiness - the risk assessment. Slovak,the EU and the U.S.legislation about GMO.
