Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After completion of the subject the student is able to solve the sustainable utilization of tropical and subtropical ecosystems and to prepare both short-term and long-term strategies of utilization and conservation of these ecosystems.
Course contents:
Structure of ecosystems in tropical and subtropical ecosystems (soils, climate conditions, vegetation, fauna etc.). Energy and material flows in these ecosystems. Charakteristics of chosen biomes and ecosystems (rainforests, monsune forests, mangrove, savannah, deserts and semi-deserts, mountain regions, the Mediterranean a pod.). Dynamics and utilization of oceans. Assessment of utilization of selected ecosystems and possibilities of their sustainable use (tropical agriculture, forestry), fight against the poverty. Support mechanisms and presentation of case studies.
