Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – one written exam (20 points), seminar work (5 points), laboratory protocol (5 points), and end-of-term examination will comprise oral and written parts (70 points).
Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The aim of the subject is to understand of key concepts in plant genetic technologies, and its applications to genetics and plant breeding. Students get familiar with laboratory skills that are needed for molecular analysis and sequencing of plant genomes. They will learn how to apply obtained molecular data for finding of genetic relationships and will learn to analyse genomic relationships of sequencing data.
Course contents:
Principle methods of plant genetic technologies. Characteristics of DNA, enzymes used for DNA recombinat technologies. DNA sequencing.DNA cloning. DNA markers in plant genetic technologies. Genetic technologies, a Rapid Trait Development System – RTDS, RNA interference (RNAi), agroinfiltration and transient expression of gene. Genome mapping. Genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics.Structural and functional genomics.
