Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – two written exams 20 points each (40 points), and end-of-term examination – written exam (60 points).
Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points.
A student may earn units of credits in grading scale from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After completion of the subject the student understands the basical principles of nutrition and fertilization of agricultural crops. He/She is able to apply the methods of nutrients determination in soil and plants . He/She is able to calculate the rates of nutrients and fertilizers for various crops and agroecological conditions. He/She knows assortment of fertilizers, principles of their mixing and application.
Course contents:
Transformations of essential nutrients in soil and their cycling in soil-plant-animal-atmosphere. Importance and meaning of key soil processes (mineralization of organic matter, immobilization of nutrients, symbiotic fixation of atmospheric nitrogen,etc.) in plant nutrition and life environment. Uptake of nutrients by plants. Visual symptoms of disharmonic nutrition in main agricultural crops. Assortment, properties and utilization of mineral and organic fertilizers. Methods of agricultural crops fertilizing. Fertilization in relation to ecological and sustainable agriculture. Economical aspects of plant nutrition and fertilization.
