Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – two written exams 20 points each (40 points), and end-of-term examination – written exam (60 points). Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points. A student may earn units of credits in grading scale from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student is able to calculate of feed rations and feedmixtures and to analyse the nutrition for individual kinds and categories of animals with the aid of software tools. After completion of the subject the student understands the issues of nutrition and feeding of ruminants and non-ruminants, is able to analyse and optimize compound feed for non-ruminants and ruminants.
Course contents:
The importance of forage and cereals for individual kinds and categories of animals will be emphasized. Influences of incorrect feeding will be displayed. Food quality will be evaluated, economical utilization of foods will be pointed out. Feeding plans for young cattle, cows, non-dairy cows and bulls for breeding purposes will be discussed, along with diets for sheep, goats, horses, pigs and poultry. Composition plans for diets will be set up. The requirements for cereals for individual categories of ruminants and non-ruminants will be specified. Requirements for feedmixtures will be formulated, along with mineral doses. Optimization of feedmixtures will be obtained with the help of software tools.
