Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – one written exams (20 points each), presentation of seminar work (10 points) and end-of-term examination – written exam 40 points and oral exam 20 points. Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points. A student may earn units of credits in grading scale from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student is able to analyze and synthetically solve all weed infestation of field crops, vegetables and perennial plantings. It is able to think and decide at a critical decision point and make good use of knowledge of Integrated Pest Management in the regulation of weed.
Course contents:
Mix of measures against the harmful effects of weeds: preventive, indirect and direct. Mechanical and physical agro-technical operations for weed control. The mechanism of action of herbicides. Characteristics of active ingredients of herbicides according to the chemical groups. Herbicide use in protection against the harmful effects of weeds. Selectivity of herbicides and possibilities of influence. Pesticide residues and methods for their detection in soil and production. Herbicide use in specific conditions, zones of sanitary protection of water resources, irrigation conditions, water surfaces. Handling herbicides. Storage of herbicides. Application of herbicides in field crops, vegetables and perennial plantings. Rationalization of applications and economic aspects of regulation. Research in the regulation of weed. Weed control in sustainable land management systems. Field exercises are carried out on the VPP SPU, sro Kolíňany and SBER Dolna Malanta.
