Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – one written exam (20 points), presentation of seminar work (10 points) and end-of-term examination – written exam (70 points).
Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points. A student may earn units of credits in grading scale from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Acquisition of theoretical knowledge on biosafety enabling to cope with practical tasks concerning the genetically modified organisms in conformity with the national and global legislation. After completition of the subject student will understand the workflow for rthe risk evaluating in the field of modern biotechnology. Student will be able to analyse and solve individual parts of the risk evaluation and risk management of GMOs.
Course contents:
Theoretical backround of biosafety. Biosafety questions not concerned to GMOs - food safety, animal and plant health, invasion species, biohazard and bioterrorism. GMO aspects of biosafety for agriculture and food production. Risk assessment and risk management for GM microorganisms, plants and animals. Information strategies about GMOs for public and schools. National, international and global level for informing about biosafety topics. National and international legilation for GMOs. History, nowaday situantion and future perspective of biosafety questions.
