Assesment methods :
The term grade will consist of continuous assessment – one written exam (20 points), field work protocol (10 points), semestral work (10 points) and end-of-term examination – written exam (60 points).
Grading scale: letter grade A requires minimum 93 points, letter grade B requires minimum 86 points, letter grade C requires minimum 79 points, letter grade D requires minimum 72 points, letter grade E requires minimum 64 points.
A student may earn units of credits in grading scale from A to E.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After completion of the subject the student is able to aply knowledge in breeding, legislative and zoo-veterinary principles in area of poultry and waterfowl keeping. He will absorb the method of poultry exterior and utility parameters evaluation in poultry exhibitions and judgement of breeds. He will be able to evaluate the quality of breeding and hatching of poultry in small farm conditions and hobby keepers.
Course contents:
Biological specificities of poultry in relation to their keeping in small-flocks conditions. Importance, the organization of poultry flocks and hatcheries in response to legislative standards in pure breeds of poultry keeping. l Breeds of chickens, turkey, guinea fowl, Japanese quail, ducks, goose and Muscovy ducks appropriate for hobby husbandry and important conditions of their husbandry. Exterior poultry judging and organization poultry exhibitions. The practical part of the education (field exercise, excursion) is realized in the VPP SPU, s.r.o. Kolíňany and for poultry exterior judging during small animals exhibitions.
