Assesment methods :
During the semester there will be two written tests for 20 points, written final exam for 60 points. Students for receive grade exam A (EXCELLENT) need at least 93 points, B (VERY GOOD) at least 86 points, C (GOOD) at least 79 points, D (SATISFACTORY) at least 72 points, E (SUFFICIENT) at least 64 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After completion of the subject the student understands new theoretical knowledge about characteristics of packaging materials and new trends in food packaging. Student is able to apply this obtained knowledge for proposal of packaging for different sorts of food. Student is able to use knowledge of optimizing methods for selection of alternative packaging types. Student is able to label of packaging according valid European and Slovak law.
Course contents:
Characteristics, dividing, types and properties of packaging and packaging materials. Barrier effects of packaging. Active and intelligent packaging. Modified atmosphere packaging. Edible and biodegradable packaging. Food labeling in accordance with valid European and Slovak legal regulations. Food packaging systems.
