Title of the thesis:	Innovation in Local Self-Government in Cities Trenčín and Prievidza
Summary:	Innovation is playing an increasingly important role in todays world, presents an essential tool in the fighting against competition and serves as a development factor in economies around the world. Increased importance is attributed to innovation within the Local Self-Governments, because only innovative government can maintain high quality of services and ensure communication with citizens at a high level. The main goal of the diploma thesis is to evaluate the innovation activities in terms of the Local Self-Government of cities Trenčín and Prievidza. The first part of the thesis provides a theoretical basis of fundamental concepts such as innovation, innovation in public sector, innovation process and classification of these terms in connection with our work and also evaluation of current innovation policies of Slovak Republic and European Union. In the second part of the thesis we evaluated innovation environment within examined cities and chose three most important innovations within last five years. In the end of the thesis we determined the biggest barriers in the implementation of new innovation activities in condition of cities Trenčín and Prievidza and recommended steps for their elimination.
