Title of the thesis:Characteristics, breeding and protection of certain species of mammals of South America
Summary:Title of our bachelor thesis is „Characteristics, breeding and protection of certain species of mammals of South America“. Due to the large scope of the topic we decided to focus only on following kinds of mammals: the South American tapir (Tapirus terrestris), the giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla), the capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), and Linnaeus's two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus). Our thesis is divided into four main chapters. We put emphasis mainly on their taxonomic classification, general description of their body construction based on which it is possible to clearly identify certain species, their geographical extension, habitat, ethological manifestations, communication within the species, reproduction, feeding behavior and whether or not they are under the threat of extinction. We tried to bring attention to the threat of their extinction, because nowadays it is a very serious issue. The thesis is enriched by self-made photos and experiences gathered during the internship abroad.
Key words:giant anteater, capybara, Linnaeus's two-toed sloth, South American tapir, characteristics
