Title of the thesis:Effect of quercetin in combination with T-2 toxin on endocrine system of rabbit
Summary:T-2 toxin, a trichothecene mycotoxin, naturally contaminating cereals and agricultural products may have multiple negative effects on health of animals and humans. On the other hand quercetin has been reported to possess strong antioxidant effect on animal organism. The aim of the study was examine the effect of natural protective substance quercetin and toxic substance T-2 toxin on endocrine system of rabbits in vivo. We have studied selected hormones foliculostimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin, tyreostimulating hormone (TSH), hormone of thyroid gland T4, hormones of ovaries progesterone and 17beta-estradiol in rabbit blood plasma. The hormones were analyzed by ELISA method. It was found that: 1) single dose of T-2 toxin (0,08 mg.kg-1 b.w.) intramuscular applied 72 h before slaughter of animals significantly did not affect concentrations of hormones FSH, LH, prolactin, TSH, T4, progesterone a 17beta-estradiol in blood plasma of rabbits. 2) Similarly combination of guercetin intramuscular applied 3 x a week (at the doses 10, 100 a 1000 microg.kg-1 b.w.) during 90 days and single dose of T-2 toxin (0,08 mg.kg-1 b.w.) significantly did not affect concentrations of hormones FSH, LH, prolactin, TSH, T4, progesterone a 17beta-estradiol in blood plasma of rabbits. Single dose of T-2 toxin did not have negative impact on female organism of rabbits. Indication of protective effect of quercetin was observed.
