Analysis of communal waste in selected municipalities of eastern Slovakia with the emphasis on the occurrence of wrappage waste
|Knowledge of the basic composition of municipal solid waste is essential for setting targets, finding a waste management strategy, solving problems and finding new solutions. The primary objectives of our analysis were to quantify the individual components of municipal solid waste and also to identify structure of the packaging waste composition in the municipal solid waste stream. Well of information about this structure is the analysis of municipal solid waste and its quality is depending on the chosen methodology. After available methodologies study, we have chosen methodology by Kotoulová (2001). We have accomplished eight analyses with chosen methodology for two calendar years. We determined the most substantial representation of BDMW in MSW, it comprises one quarter of household waste in study area. The results also indicate that a quarter of landfilled municipal waste is just a packaging waste. Cardboard packaging, multilayer composites, PE foils, glass and metal containers together form a fifth of MSW. During the year, MSW structure is changing, so we have specified development trends of its constituent components. We also predicted expectant production and composition of MSW in study area, which is essential for waste management planning in the village. Chosen methodology allowed us to gain the required data of MSW composition. For this reason we recommend it for further analysis, both for complex MSW determination and MSW structure determination.|
