Project description:
Genetics shape people in many ways including our potential to excel in sports. Genetics have a large influence over muscle size, muscle fiber composition anaerobic threshold, lung capacity and endurance. Genetics have less influence over characteristics such as balance, agility, reaction time and accuracy. Many of these skills can be greatly improved with the proper training. Training, diet, and other factors play a large role in developing sport potential, but our genes may also limit performance. A favorable genetic profile, when combined with an optimal training environment, is important for elite athletic performance.Talent selection, the identification of promising athletes at a young age allows for an earlier adoption of specialized/dedicated training.
