Several strategic research and development priorities of the EU identified for 2018-2020 is oriented towards nature-based, low carbon solutions aimed to protect and enhance biodiversity and increase resilience of agro-ecosystems and vulnerable areas against the impacts of the global climate change. Biochar is a manmade substance, an organic matter that is transformed into a charcoal by a biofuel production method called pyrolysis.
