Project description:One of the greatest threats to European soils is their degradation as a result of wind and water erosion. The proposed method estimates the loss of soil in wind by comparing the historical and current fractions of sand, silt and clay particles on the surface of agricultural land (up to 5 cm) over 50 years based on Complex Soil Survey (CSS), LUCAS data and custom field mapping. Combining the effects of climate change can greatly accelerate this process in areas prone to erosion. Significant changes in the grain composition can occur very quickly, and the finest particles can erode from the soil surface over several years.
