Project description:
In recent years, raw plant food has been the source of several epidemics of food-borne diseases caused by pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli and Salmonella, Yersinia, or Shigella. Moreover, they are a significant source of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The aim of the project is to analyze the presence of these bacteria in plants in the context of plant colonisation by other microorganisms. Plant microbiom as well as rhizosphere will be analyzed using the latest molecular and culture methods. These will help us to evaluate the effect of organic fertilization, the most important source of pathogenic microorganisms, on their occurrence in / on the plant and analyze their antibiotic resistance rate and the potential for its spread.
